The Kinetoscope is an early motion picture device. It was designed for films to be viewed by only one person at a time- through a peephole window at the top of the device.
The Kinetoscope was not a movie projector, however it was introduced as the basic approach that would eventually become the main product for all cinema projections before the invention of video. They created the illusion of movement by conveying a strip of perforated film bearing sequential images over a light source with a high-speed shutter.
